Hey Wanderers! If you’re looking for a must-see theatre experience in Calgary, King James at Alberta Theatre Projects is the one. Adi and I have never raved about a show as much as we did after this one—it completely blew us away!

What’s King James About?
Set in Cleveland over 12 years, King James follows the story of two unlikely friends who bond over their shared love of basketball and, more specifically, LeBron James. As LeBron’s career rises, their friendship is tested in ways that are both hilarious and deeply emotional.
Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph, this fast-paced comedy is more than just a story about sports—it’s about friendship, loyalty, and the connections that shape our lives. And don’t worry, you don’t have to be an NBA fan to appreciate the magic of this show.
Why We Loved It
Honestly, we were hooked from the first scene. The chemistry between the two actors is unreal, and the dialogue is so sharp and witty that it feels like you’re watching two real-life best friends navigate the ups and downs of life.
At intermission, Adi and I turned to each other in shock—we couldn’t believe we were already halfway through because we were so immersed in the story. The second half was just as exhilarating, and by the time it ended, we were completely blown away.
This isn’t just a play about basketball. It’s about how the things we love bring us together—and that’s something everyone can relate to.
