From January 31 – February 17, 2025, Chinook Blast will be heating up our city with a celebration of community, culture, and civic pride. Make a plan to check out Calgary’s art, music, theatre, sport, and recreation, and embrace the season with your family. Then be sure to cozy up fireside on outdoor patios or capture moments among the lovely outdoor art installations.
For 2025, Chinook Blast will transform Stephen Avenue (1st SE to 3rd St SW) for light and art displays, performances, family-friendly fun, and delicious food. The Confluence will be the official Winter Sports Hub with outdoor activities and skating.

Family Fishing Weekends Alberta

Family fishing weekends are offered twice a year in Alberta – during the Family Day weekend and during National Fishing Week in the summer.
During Alberta’s twice-yearly Family Fishing Weekends, no fishing is licence required. Albertans and visitors are invited to give fishing a try on waterbodies with open fishing seasons (not in national parks). Keep in mind that fishing regulations still apply.
Alberta has approximately 130+ stocked waterbodies for anglers to enjoy. They are stocked annually with rainbow trout, brook trout, brown trout, cutthroat trout or tiger trout.
Stocked waters are listed in the Alberta Guide to Sportfishing Regulations. Find a stocked lake near you and enjoy catching a memory on your family fishing experience.
