Chinook Blast will be heating up our city with a celebration of community, culture, and civic pride. Make a plan to check out Calgary’s art, music, theatre, sport, and recreation, and embrace the season with your family. Then be sure to cozy up fireside on outdoor patios or capture moments among the lovely outdoor art installations.
For 2025, Chinook Blast will transform Stephen Avenue (1st SE to 3rd St SW) for light and art displays, performances, family-friendly fun, and delicious food. The Confluence will be the official Winter Sports Hub with outdoor activities and skating.
SPIDER-BOY THE MUSICAL SPIDERVERSE

Link Up: The Orchestra Sings

In collaboration with Carnegie Hall, the Calgary Phil presents Link Up: The Orchestra Sings — a special concert where students are given the opportunity to join the Orchestra in performance from their very own seat in the audience! With their voices as their instruments, students will prepare their part in the classroom and then link up with the Calgary Phil for the concert! This special experience is an opportunity for students to apply the musical concepts they’ve studied alongside a professional orchestra. Led by Conductor Juliane Gallant, this concert features Mahti Mamawi Nikamotan by Sherryl Sewepagaham, arranged by Cris Derksen, and joined by singers from Calgary Opera.

Calgary Zoo – Penguin Walk

Since they arrived in 2012, the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo’s penguins have become a visitor favourite! Once again this winter, you can see the king penguins outside of their habitat as they take a royal promenade through the zoo grounds.
Penguin Walk, presented by WestJet, offers the king penguins an opportunity for wintery enrichment as well as additional daily exercise. Up to fourteen penguins can choose to participate in the daily march, including ‘Diana’, ‘Grace’, ‘Solomon’, ‘Cleopatra’, ‘Louis’, ‘Phillipe’, ‘Henri’, ‘Napoleon’, ‘George’, ‘Boudicca’, ‘Rupert’, ‘Arthur’, ‘Alfred’, and our juvenile king penguin ‘Augustus’.
Penguin Walk is dependent on the birds’ desire to walk as well as the weather, but luckily for onlookers, the colony loves to walk and usually chooses to!
Kids Play at The Beach YYC

On Wednesday & Friday mornings we offer children’s play time at the beach. From 10:00-11:30 AM bring your child to spend a few hours digging and playing in the sand. We supply all the beach toys including shovels, buckets and more!
Children 5 and under will have a dedicated court for toys and shovels. No registration needed, just come on down!

No registration is necessary — just meet at the designated departure spot (there will be signage and staff to assist day of) and leave with the first available wagon!
